CURRICULUM OPTIONS

Learnaling

Learnaling provides: 

  • Interactive Lessons

  • Roughly aligned with CEFR guidelines, Cambridge YLE exams and TOEFL Primary Exams

  • Level 1 Beginner [learn alphabet letters/sounds, simple words, songs and phrases, ages 4-8] 22 lessons

  • Level 2 Pre A1 [Students ages 5-12 who already know alphabet sounds and can read simple words] In 16 lessons, students will learn basic vocabulary, grammar for simple sentences, songs and speaking phrases.

  • Level 3 A1 [Students ages 5-12 who can already read and speak in simple sentences] In 21 lessons, students will learn to speak with grammatical sentences in different present tenses. At the end of Level 3, students could take the Cambridge Starters exam.

  • Level 4 A1[Students ages 6-12 who can read/speak in full sentences and use present tenses correctly] In 17 lessons, students will learn more vocabulary, past tense grammar and speak in detail. Students could prepare for Cambridge Movers exam. 

  • Level 5 [Students ages 7-12 who can read/speak in detail and use past tense correctly] In 24 lessons, students will learn to speak using a wider variety of tenses and sentence structures, and read texts fluently. Students could take TOEFL Primary Step 1 exam and start to prepare for Cambridge Flyers or KET/A2 Key exams.

Crystal Clear ESL

CRYSTAL CLEAR ESL provides:

Adult English Classes

Students will choose between ESLPals and Off2Class curriculums.

American Sign Language

In this course, students will learn American Sign Language using a curriculum of their choice. Teen/Adult students are required to purchase their own copy of the textbook and accompanying DVD [where available] [Master ASL!]. Children students are required to purchase their own subscription to the curriculum of their choice after deciding upon it with the teacher.

NOTE: The classroom experience will be done completely voiceless with the teacher using a whiteboard as needed for communication.

Book Report

Students bring their own school-assigned book topic and genre for the teacher to work on the development of a book report.

The teacher will screen share Google Slides and a whiteboard, when available to support the lesson.

This class improves students’ understanding of the concept and components of a book report, understanding of literacy genres, reading fluency, asking and answering questions, evaluating and analyzing, and reading comprehension.

The student completes the book report organizers in preparation for writing, writes, edits, revises and presents a book report.

Business English

Students can choose from a Business English curriculum from ESLPals, Off2Class, or Crystal Clear ESL.

Students can improve Business English skills such as language instruction and training in business communication, including business correspondence, negotiations, formal presentations, informal networking, business vocabulary, report and proposal writing, vocabulary for professional purposes, and reading for professional purposes.

Online Socializing

Conversational Practice/ Speaking Course

Student and Teacher will have conversational practice on a real-life topic.

Students will improve their Listening skills by understanding words, phrases, or short sentences based on common topics in daily life and speaking skills by learning words, phrases, and simple sentence patterns to communicate in structured short conversations related to personal experience and nearby objects.

This class improves students’ awareness of topics of interest, oral fluency, idioms [where applicable], and speaking practice.

Students can choose from a teacher-created curriculum [see above options].

This class improves students’ academic foundation in English which covers listening, speaking, literacy [reading, writing], and critical thinking skills.

In addition, phonics, vocabulary, HFW [High-frequency sight words], and decoding skills will be taught.

Students can choose from a list of pre-selected topics.

The teacher will use Google Slide presentations and whiteboard to add to the lesson.

This class helps develop students’ pronunciation, language functions, grammar, high-frequency words, vocabulary, reading, sentence patterns and free talk communication skills.

Grammar

Students can choose from a grammar curriculum or the use of Google Slides/whiteboard instruction.

This course will help the student to learn common basic English grammar points and apply their knowledge in both oral and written communication.

Sample tasks might be to practice answering test questions and comparing/contrast grammar points.

This class includes sentence structure, parts of speech, and sentence flow.

Student must bring their own school-issued textbook and workbooks or show proof on the school-issued personal login-in link!

No digital curriculum will be shown in the classroom beyond scaffolding PowerPoints [as needed], rewards, and a whiteboard!

This class helps develop the student's English reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.

Phonics

Students can choose from a phonics curriculum.

This class improves a student's progressive awareness of phonological and phonemic awareness, print awareness, alphabetic knowledge, alphabetic principle, decoding, reading practice with decodable text, high-frequency words, and reading fluency.

Pronunciation

Students can receive instruction through the use of Google Slides/whiteboard instruction.

A formal curriculum can be purchased by the teacher and used for instruction at an additional subscription cost.

Public Speaking

Students can receive instruction through the use of Google Slides/whiteboard instruction.

A formal curriculum can be purchased by the teacher and used for instruction at an additional subscription cost.

This provides more advanced application scenarios for students to express themselves confidently.

Students can improve their language application skills, presentation skills, critical thinking skills, and global leadership.

Students will improve their understanding of speech content [keywords and phrases], organization/transitions, verbal skills: intonation/pitch/pausing, and non-verbal skills: eye contact, gestures, and body language.

Feedback will be given through a rubric evaluation.

Students will improve their ability to combine words to create grammatically correct sentences of increasing length.

The teacher will provide a Power Point/Google Slides lesson combined with an interactive whiteboard for scaffolding.

Students will improve their pronunciation, spelling, and retention of high-frequency ‘sight’ words commonly found in English text.

Storytime

Students will bring their own copy of an English storybook [after discussion with Teacher Kara] to practice with.

Students will improve their understanding of storybook text vocabulary, pre/during/after reading comprehension strategies, and progress from listening, echo reading, and then independently reading the text.

Students will choose the test they want to prepare for and then the curriculum with a discussion with Teacher Kara [Off2Class, Crystal Clear ESL]. Students will improve the skills needed for the specific test selected.

The optional method is the use of  Google Slides/whiteboard only for instruction on thematic topics.

Writing

Students can choose between Google Slides/whiteboard instruction or bring their school-assigned writing projects to the classroom.

In a chosen writing curriculum, students will learn up to 11 different text types such as [personal descriptions, personal emails, restaurant reviews, stories, blog entries, mini-biography, leaflets, newsletter articles, letters to the editor, and poetry.

In a school-assigned writing class, students bring their writing assignment directions to the classroom and textbook [as needed] to work together with the teacher to go through the writing stages from brainstorming, drafting, rough draft, editing, publishing [oral speaking practice], and final written draft.

The class will include conventions, spelling, one-on-one editing, and organization.
